The tip about carrying prescriptions is an important one. Most of the time Customs aren't interested in a small quantity of prescription medications if they are obviously for your personal use, but some countries are very strict on it. A friend of mine went to Australia for a month and they confiscated her medications because she didn't have her prescription with her. That caused her a lot of inconvenience because she had to go to an Australian doctor and get a new prescription to buy her medications again.
